Aaronbasement

This is Aaron's brewing room, where he makes his gunpowder and drugs and alcohol concoctions. He found an old, abandoned basement one day whilst running from some older kids he'd hexed in his second year, and he's put this place to good use. He moved all his equipment down here, and disgused the entrance with a couple charms so no one would walk in on his lab.

Aaron entered the basement, flicking on the light, closely followed by Johanna. "Sorry it's kinds messy," he said as they entered the room lined with bottles. "I meant to tidy up but I forgot."

"It's all so secret lair-ish." she remarks, walking around, skimming her fingers across the edge of some of the tables. "Like I should've been blindfolded and spun around five times and led here by hand lest I divulge its location." She grins. "I won't though. I like it."

"Would you like a drink?" he asked, making his way over to a shelf stacked with an impressive collection of alcohol bottles. He drew out a bottle of vodka and two clean glasses.

She nods, accepting the drink. "Explosives and vodka? This place has everything."

"Thanks," he grinned, taking a swig. "So, I promised I'd teach you how to make fireworks - wanna start?" he asked with a glint in his eye.

Her eyes light up in excitement and she bites her lip to contain the smile. "Of course!" she says.

"Okay! Let's start with... firecrackers," he says, and immediately begins dashing from cupboard to cupboard, collecting his ingredients. "Homemade firecrackers - easy as hell to make, and good for causing distractions, making people jump or, with magic, making places look pretty," he said as he lay his ingredients on the main table; a ping-pong ball, a roll of thick string, some duct tape, a small cylinder of gunpowder and a penknife. "It doesn't look like much, but trust me."

"I do trust you," she says, her eyes darting from one ingredient to another. "I mean, this is bound to work if you've got a ping pong ball. So, what first?"

He jumped onto the table and sat cross-legged, facing Johanna, then picked up the ping-pong ball and the penknife. "Make a small hole in one side of the ball, then make a slightly bigger one on the other side," he demonstrated, making sure to get everything completely accurate even though he could do this blindfolded. "Then cut a piece of string and thread it through the holes. There's your fuse."

She gets her own and tries doing the same, succeeding after a minute or so. She holds it up, a proud smile on her face. "Like this?"

"Yep, exactly like that," he nodded, then unscrewed the cylinder of gunpowder and drew out a small spoon. "Fill the ball up about 3/4 full of gunpowder. Do not overfill it - seriously. It gets messy if you do," he warned, speaking from experience and proceeding to fill up the ping-pong ball.

She does it, and giggles a bit at a sudden thought that enters her head. "I'm waiting for the moment when it starts getting seriously complicated." she says as she fills up the ball.

"Yeah, well, that was it," he grinned as he watched Johanna carefully, then nodded. "Seriously, these are so easy. Now, all you need to do is duct-tape up the bigger hole, and you're done!"

"Oh my godsh, really?" she says, beaming as she reaches for the duct tape, and puts some on the bigger hole like Aaron said. She sets it down on the table and looks at it before turning her head to face him. "This okay?"

Aaron took the firecracker and examined it, turning it over in his hands and feeling its weight. "Yep, looks good," he nodded, smiling. "That's great for a first try. Now, currently, all this thing is gonna do is bang. But if we do this," he took his wand from his pocket and tapped the firecracker twice. "Do you wanna go test it?"

"Not here!" he chuckled, then pointed up to a window at the very top of the wall, and the ladder leaning next to it. The window started at the outdoors ground-level, and blades of grass from the sports field grazed the bottom of the glass. "Come on, climb the ladder," he said, opening the window with a spell.

She follows, climbing up the ladder while laughing a bit. "Have you ever thought about what would happen though if everything here just went boom!" she asks, still giggling a bit. "Very thrillciting." She reaches the top and climbs out the window.

Aaron climbed out the window and sat cross-legged on the grass next to Johanna. "So, here's the normal one," he said, holding it in his palm. He then drew a matchbox from his pocket, struck one, lit the fuse and threw the firecracker across the grass. It settled on the ground, then exploded with an unexpectedly-loud bang.

She's startled when the bang happens, but ends up grinning. She holds hers in the palm of her hand. "And this is the not-so-normal one?" she asks, before muttering a charm and lighting the fuse, tossing it across the field and she waits for the result.

Because of the spell Aaron had cast, when the firecracker went off, it exploded in a shower of multi-coloured sparks, lighting up the night sky with vibrant shades of pink and blue and green. He grinned, then looked over to Johanna for her reaction.

At the sight of colors filling the sky, a smile instantly forms on her face. She's gotten used to the sight by now; hanging around Aaron has done that to her, but it still feels great every time she sees it. "This is wonderferous."

Aaron smiled, a proper, massive genuine smile. Johanna was one of the very few people who could draw that from him.
